Quinoa – Delicious and Nutritious!
I’m always looking for strategies to eat healthier, but the simple truth is that although I wish to be healthier, I am just not ready to give up flavor. There is certainly no point in me making a meal that is healthy yet tasteless because I will probably just toss it out and reach for something which tastes fantastic. And, most likely the food I reach for is going to be far less healthy as compared to if I had simply tried cooking something tasty from the start. That’s why I was so happy when I experimented with cooking quinoa several months back. This has virtually altered the way our family eats!
Quinoa very first sprang to my personal attention as a result of Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Diet Cookbook. I was doubtful that the recipe could be scrumptious enough to satisfy our family’s demanding preferences, but since it’s clearly so healthy I decided it was worth a shot. Boy am I glad that I did!! Everyone enjoyed the meal, from my hubby (who enjoys fine meals) to my 6 year old (who favors hot dogs). Since then, Quinoa with Sun Dried Tomatoes is now a consistent meal in my house. I usually include in some low-fat chicken sausage and we make a total meal from it! It is fast, healthy and we are all satisfied.
Ever since then, I’ve been searching for additional quinoa recipes. Amazingly, although eating quinoa is a comparatively new thing in the American world, there are many recipes to be found. I’ve found good quinoa recipes every where from fine magazines like Food and Wine and Epicurious to healthful mags like Clean Eating and Cooking Light! I’ve tried more than just a few of them, and almost all of them are excellent.
Quinoa is one of the most versatile foods that you will find. You can eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It makes a great hot ceral or evening casserole. It can even be used as opposed to bread crumbs in meatballs and meat loafs. My very young children simply won’t go without their macaroni and cheese, but I have discovered they actually eat as well when I exchange healthy quinoa for the pasta.
Quinoa is so healthy that even NASA is looking at it for long term manned missions. Nutritionist agree that it just one of the most perfect of foods. In fact, The World Health Organization has deemed that quinoa is a complete protein. This means that it has all of the amino acids that you need for optimum health. It is also an excellent source of B vitamins, magnesium, calcium, folate, iron and phosphorus.
For wholesome healthy meals, try cooking quinoa! You will be glad that you did!
